High Street Church Zoom Worship with Rev. Sarah Oglesby – January 31, 2021
Imagining a Way Out asks us to imagine what would be available to us as human communities if we could move beyond the many different forms of “caste” systems we have created that limit us. Drawing from Wilkerson’s book “Caste,” Rev. Sarah offers High Street a view of what the future could look like…if we could imagine a way out.

High Street Church Zoom Worship with Rev. Sarah Oglesby and John Dunegan– December 20, 2020
In Christianity, Mary has been a bridge for many between pagan traditions and cultural forms of spirituality that preceded Christianity. There are many ways to understand her role and what she symbolizes that transcend the traditions of Catholicism and point to something greater than any one spiritual understanding of the feminine divine. Rev. Sarah and her husband John have come to know Mary from very different spiritual and religious frames. John grew up Catholic, where Mary has a prominent role. Sarah grew up unchurched in a feminist household that leaned pagan and met Mary through her studies of the feminine divine across cultures. What does the feminine divine have to offer us today?
High Street Church Zoom Worship with Rev. Sarah Oglesby – December 13, 2020
Many UU’s have struggled to understand both the history of denomination and its spiritual connections to Christianity, Judaism, and other world faith traditions. In particular, we often want to follow the teachings of Jesus without acknowledging Jesus or Biblical stories that are embedded in our culture and in our own faith tradition. We’ve changed the words to the songs that came from our Christian Hymnals and we’ve secularized our practices. Is there a place for Jesus in our tradition anymore? Drawing from Scotty McLennan’s 2016 Skinner House book, and authors John Dominic Crossan and Amy Jill Levine, Rev. Sarah shares some possibilities for UU’s to re-connect with Jesus and still be… UU.
High Street Church Zoom Worship with Rev. Sarah Oglesby – December 6, 2020
How can we engage our UU principles in our everyday life? Some UU’s have started celebrating “Chalica” as a weeklong experience of embodied and engaged practices that can enrich our everyday lives and remind us who we intend to be—whether we are at home, at work, or out in the community. We’re not just UU’s on Sunday, right? Paula Del Rio and Rev. Sarah will offer some ideas for members of all ages to take with them for the week, month, and year. In addition, we’ll talk about the proposed 8th Principle and how we might engage it as well–including why we might adopt it as a congregation ahead of the denomination adopting it.
