The Rev. Dr. Kirby Godsey – March 25, 2018
Both science and religion are deeply embedded in our human experience, both exploring the mysteries of the universe, including the mystery of our own lives. While science is making our world a better and safer place, we know that its achievements can be used for unholy and destructive purposes. For example, nuclear energy cannot only light our homes, it can be used to annihilate whole nations.
Just as scientific advances can be used for unholy purposes, religious abuses have become far too common. Religion has been used to justify unthinkable atrocities, to subvert the advance of women, or as a defense for prejudice against gays and lesbians. Despite their abuses, science and religion represent important avenues for exploring the mystery of which we are a part.
